The 45th annual stones skipping tournament has come to a close with a new batch of champions. Skip on over to the 2013 Box Scores for details. Michael ‘Mighty’ Lenhart won the Pebbles 12 and under division with 17 while up and coming skipper Peter ‘Pete’ Gustafson took the Open Tournament title with 20. Max ‘Batman’ Steiner took the Professional division with 2 skips of 29. According to the judges “That one skip that went under the dock and came out the other side may have been more than 29 but we could not count the owns in the shadows.”
There was some drama when Kurt ‘Mountain Man’ Steiner was thought to be a no show arrived late running off the boat to barely make it in time for the 2nd round of skips. As he was late HighCommissioner Piskie ruled that he had to forfeit the round he missed and the score card shows ‘K’ for Kerplunk. island favorite Todd ‘Mussels’ Callewaert took 2nd place with a high skip of 27 while Mountain Man and Rock Bottom tied for third place with high skips of 26.
Though clouds and cooler weather embraced the open tournament contestants, sunshine and a calm breeze welcomed in the Professional division. The beach was packed with fans looking for autographs from the professionals and a sneak peak of what a career in stone skipping could look like.
