44th Annual Stone Skipping Tournament around the corner

In less than the 7 days the straits of Mackinac will be filled with skipping, splashing and gerplunking stones.  The annual 4th of July tournament on Mackinac Island is sure to be another crowd pleaser. Returning pros include:

  • Russ ‘Rock Bottom’ Byars (current Guinness world record holder)
  • Todd ‘Mussels’ Callewaert (local favorite & 2011 defending champion)
  • Glen ‘Hard Luck’ Loy (Traverse city’s favorite)
  • John ‘Skippy’ Kolar (Guinness world record holder & 1999 & 2006 winner)
  • Mike ‘Air Tight Alibi’ Williamson (2011 Open winner)
  • Max ‘Batman’ Steiner (Former Open winner)
  • Nate ‘the Dogg’ Rango
  • David ‘Lefty’ Kolar (2001 & 2003 Winner)
  • Jordan ‘the Juice’ Ingram (tentative)

Everyone is eligible to compete in the tournament. The more the merrier.

  • Gerplunkers of all ages skip from 10:00 am to noon
  • Pebbles Cup Division – Those 12 and under skip from 10:00 am to noon
  • Glen Allen Open – 13 to 112 also skip from 10:00 am to noon
  • Gerplunkers of all ages skip from 10:00 am to noon
  • Wilmer T. Rabe Pro Invitational – Begins at high noon

Annual Awards banquet is from 5 to 7 pm on Tuesday July 3rd at ‘The Woods’ and is open to past winners, attendees and the press. If you are planning on coming please rsvp to systemated@algxmail.com so that we can make sure we have a seat for you.
