July 4th 2014 – Official Results

The 46th Annual tournament was a rip skipping success. The event raised $452  for the Island Medical center with over a 130 competitors.  Conditions could not have been better with blue skies and 70 degree temperatures. Few skippers dared to join the water judge out in the refreshingly cool Lake Huron, although everyone soaked up the joy of skipping stones while on summer vacation.

High Commissioner Paul Toepp returned refreshed, relaxed and reinvigorated after his  5 year sabbatical. In an interesting twist the High Commissioner invited 2 amateurs into the pro division this year.  The open winner was of course invited and the High Commissioner had a 6 way skip off amongst the top 6 amateurs to fill the coveted 11th spot on the pro roster.  Matt Lenhardt from Grosse Point, MI took the honor and did well in the pros.  The pros all skipped well and in the end “Airtight Alibi” took this years title with a solid 26.

  1. Anthony Masucci says:

I never realized that stone skipping was a big contest, I won 2 championships here in Ontonagon mi back to back years, one with a throw of 30, and another with a throw of 24, what does it take to enter your competition?

  2. Mike Piskie says:

Anthony only takes 6 stones, a couple of bucks and good humor to compete in the annual Stone Skipping tournament each year on the 4th of July.
